How to get from Montpellier to Arinsal, Andorra by car

If you are coming from Montpellier (or Lyon), do not go to Perpignan.  Go via Carcassonne, Foix, Pas de la Casa.  It's shorter and the road is better.  Believe us, we've done it MANY times. Just follow the route map described below.

Bad snow conditions in Pas de la Casa?
If the road conditions are bad when approaching Andorra, you can take the Puymorens tunnel at Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre and then follow for Bourg-Madame, Puigcerda, Bellver de Cerdanya, la Seu d'Urgell and then Andorra.  It will add 45' to your trip but you will avoid having to put on snow chains.  For instructions to get from Bourg-Madame to Andorra (once you have gone through the Puymorens tunnel), click here and follow as of Bourg-Madame

Montpellier - Arinsal route map

Once across the Andorran border at Pas de la Casa, pass the Envalira pass (2'407m) and descend towards Escaldes & Andorra-la-Vella via  Soldeu, el Tarter, Canillo and Encamp (30 km).
At the entrance of Escaldes-Engordany / Andorra la Vella, go straight at the round-about and take the first right in front of the church towards "La Massana / Ordino".  Drive up and then straight along the narrowish street (follow the red line on the map).  Exit the city, drive through the tunnels and drive into "La Massana".
Once in "La Massana", keep driving though "town". Under the footbridge, turn left towards "Pal/Arinsal". After 3,5 km, and having past the hamlet of "Erts", you'll reach the village of Arinsal.
